The Las Vegas Raiders are entering a new era for the franchise. The Raiders have had four consecutive losing seasons and have gone through three coaches in that span, the most recent being Pete Carroll.
The Raiders are hoping for a turnaround after finishing the 2025 season with a 3-14 record. They have appointed former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their new head coach. Last season, the Raiders struggled significantly, finishing last in total offense, ranked 28th in passing offense and holding the 32nd spot in both rushing offense and scoring offense.
The defense showed some improvement, ranking No. 14 in total defense, No. 14 in passing defense, No. 17 in rushing defense and No. 25 in scoring defense. Although the defense was a solid unit, Fox Sports’ Greg Auman predicts the Raiders will sign 2016 Super Bowl MVP Von Miller in free agency.

“Miller, 36, managed to lead Washington with nine sacks in 2025 while playing rotational snaps on an affordable $6 million deal,” Auman wrote. “Can he do it again for Year 16? Of course, he can. He’s the NFL‘s active career sack leader with 138.5, a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and he’s playing for a fraction of what he cost a few years ago. He played in his heyday for Gary Kubiak in Denver, so could he finish his career with Klint in Las Vegas?”
The immediate effect of signing Miller would be a leadership injection for a franchise in transition. While the Raiders’ defense showed flashes, the unit lacked a consistent game-changing presence to complement star Maxx Crosby off the edge. Even at 36, Miller remains productive, recording nine sacks last season in a rotational role. His experience and pass-rush savvy could elevate a young defensive front seven while setting a tone in the locker room.
From a broader standpoint, rebuilding teams often benefit from adding accomplished veterans who understand how to win at the highest level. Miller, the NFL’s active career sack leader, brings a championship pedigree and credibility. His previous success under Gary Kubiak in Denver also creates an interesting connection to Klint Kubiak, potentially easing the transition into Las Vegas’ new defensive structure. At a relatively affordable cost compared to his prime years, the risk would be manageable for a team seeking stability.
Looking ahead, the Raiders’ offseason will define whether this reset gains traction. If Miller joins Las Vegas, he could serve as both a short-term production boost and a mentor figure as the franchise attempts to climb out of a four-year stretch of losing seasons. For a team desperate to change its identity, adding a likely future Pro Football Hall of Famer might be the spark needed to begin that climb in 2026.
