The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to be active in the NFL free agent wide receiver market this offseason, and a big name just dropped that will be available to them, as the Miami Dolphins have informed Tyreek Hill that he will be released this offseason, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Hill, who will turn 32 next month, suffered a serious, season-ending injury during the Dolphins’ 27-21 win over the New York Jets in Week 4. He reportedly tore multiple ligaments in his dislocated knee, including his ACL, and had surgery to repair his injury.
It’s unclear what the market will be like for Hill, as he is coming off his first sub-1,000-yard season since 2019. He recorded 21 catches for 265 yards and one touchdown before suffering his serious injury last season. There’s no guarantee Hill will even be ready for the 2026 season, but it will certainly be a situation to monitor.
Hill’s release, if it is processed before June 1, will save the Dolphins $22.9 million against the 2026 salary cap while incurring a $28.3 million dead cap hit. He had been set to earn $29.9 million in base salary in 2026, the final non-void year on the contract.

A fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, Hill has recorded 819 catches for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns in his 10-year NFL career.
The Steelers have a big need at wide receiver, with only DK Metcalf, Ben Skowronek and Roman Wilson under contract for 2026.
