The Kansas City Chiefs will be undergoing significant change this offseason after missing the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era in 2025.

That means roster moves will be made that might not sit too well with some fans, as the franchise looks to figure out where it went wrong in 2025.

And that leads us to where the Chiefs could look to make some roster moves.

For The Athletic’s Jesse Newell, he has one move that the Chiefs could make, and it’s moving on from the penalty-riddled tackle, Jawaan Taylor.

“This one seems like a formality at this point,” Newell wrote. “The Chiefs can save $20 million against the cap by cutting the oft-penalized Taylor, who seems destined for a change of scenery at age 28.”

Chiefs can cover Taylor cut

Newell also pointed out that the Chiefs have in-house options to take over from Taylor.

Jaylon Moore is the obvious one who can slide across, which would mean Josh Simmons is the left tackle for Patrick Mahomes.

Is that an option that Kansas City would be comfortable moving forward with in 2026? Or will the franchise look to shore up the offensive line in free agency? Considering Mahomes was nearly sacked a career-high number of times, and he only played 14 games, it might be worthwhile adding depth.

But cutting Taylor, as Newell points out, feels like a formality, considering his consistent penalties, so the Chiefs could cut ties, save some cap space, and move forward in this new era with Taylor holding them back.
