New Orleans Saints

Outside of Chris Olave, the New Orleans Saints don’t have another wide receiver they can count on. In this recent Saints TWSN Mock Draft, Marissa Myers made a selection that hopes to solve that problem.

This past season, the Saints’ top receiver in terms of receiving yards was Olave, which shouldn’t come as a shock. After that, they didn’t have a single wide receiver cross over 550 yards.

Juwan Johnson is a fine player, but he shouldn’t be the Saints’ number two receiver with 889 yards.

Tyler Shough played very well in his rookie season, and 2026 is going to be crucial for his future. If Shough and the Saints disappoint in 2026, there’s no guarantee that he’ll have a job heading into 2027.

However, based on what Shough did last season, the Saints should give him the weapons to prove himself in 2026. Getting Shough a true WR2 would allow them to get a more accurate evaluation on how good he really is.

New Orleans Saints NFL Mock Draft: Drafting Germie Bernard

That wide receiver selection didn’t come in round one, as that was spent on David Bailey. Then in round two (pick No. 40), Myers went with Germie Bernard.

Bernard comes in at 6’1”, 204 lbs and he’s played both in the slot on top of taking snaps out wide. In 2025, Bernard played 335 snaps out wide compared to 186 snaps in the slot (per PFF).

The year prior, Bernard played more in the slot. In 2024, Bernard had 192 slot snaps and 187 snaps out wide. That kind of versatility would be extremely valuable to New Orleans.

Bernard has never put up elite stats, but he had over 750 receiving yards in both 2024 and 2025 at Alabama.

Most recently, Bernard had 862 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 64 receptions.

Does Germie Bernard Fit With the New Orleans Saints?

Here’s what Myers had to say about the selection of Bernard.

“With Shough showing he was able to become the franchise quarterback to end the 2026 season, the biggest thing for New Orleans on the offensive side of the ball will be to surround him with better receiving talent. Chris Olave is a good wide receiver, but his health concerns have become too great for New Orleans to overlook.”

Myers brings up the injury history of Olave, which is worth mentioning. If Olave misses time in the future, Bernard could slide into that WR1 role for a week or so.

When both are healthy, Bernard would be the clear WR2 next to Olave.

Outside of 2024, when Olave played in just eight games, he had over 1,000 yards in every other season.

Taking Bernard in the slot isn’t a bad idea at all, but there may be better options. When looking at the consensus big board on NFL Mock Draft Database, Bernard is ranked as the WR11 in this class.

Not all of these wide receivers will likely be available, but here are a few possible options who may simply be better players. Omar Cooper Jr. (45), Chris Bell (48), and Chris Brazzell (52) all have a rank above 40.

Of the three options, Brazzell is the most realistic, and that would be my pick. At the same time, he’s never played more than 40 slot snaps in a season. It’s understandable why Myers would be more interested in Bernard.

Going with Germie Bernard in the New Orleans Saints mock draft made sense, and it’s not a bad move by any means. At the same time, it wouldn’t shock me if New Orleans selected any one of those other receivers over the Alabama product.
