The Chicago Bears have finally done it. After years of being declared the “offseason champs” in the court of public opinion, it seems that the Bears are finally building something special.
Head coach Ben Johnson is all that he was cracked up to be, and while Caleb Williams has some improvements to make, he’s a legitimate difference-maker under center.
Mix in a group of young, exciting weapons, and the Bears have an offense that is going to strike fear into opponents for years to come. With a few sharp additions on the defensive side of the ball, Chicago could be a real juggernaut in the NFC.
The NFL Draft and free agency can be used to add some juice to the defense, but before those additions are made, the Bears have questions to answer. One of the biggest revolves around the future of wide receiver DJ Moore.
The emergence of Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, and Luther Burden limited Moore’s role in 2025. With other reliable options in the fold and Moore carrying a $28.5 million cap hit in 2026, the largest of anyone on the roster, he may not be in Chicago’s long-term plans.

DJ Moore to the Chiefs: NFL Trade Proposal
While the Bears have something of an embarrassment of riches in the pass-catching department, the Kansas City Chiefs have spent the last few years ironing out their receiving corps.
Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy make up a solid foundation, but the unit as a whole leaves something to be desired. The ability to truly threaten defense with explosive plays through the air disappeared following Tyreek Hill’s departure.
Adding some offensive firepower will certainly be on the offseason to-do list in Kansas City, and Lou Scataglia of FanSided thinks the Chiefs will beef up the receiver room by trading for DJ Moore.
“Moore still has multiple 1,000-yard seasons left in the tank. He’s a sure-handed, well-rounded player who could instantly become the top option in the Chiefs’ offense. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is working his way back from a torn ACL, so he’ll need some security blankets on offense as he gets more eased into the lineup. Moore is a logical target for the Chiefs in the offseason,” wrote Scataglia.
Should The Chiefs Trade For DJ Moore?
It would be hard to fault Kansas City for getting aggressive and trading for an established receiver—the offense needs it.
However, Moore should not be their target. Scataglia pitches Moore as a “security blanket” for Patrick Mahomes, and that’s exactly why they shouldn’t explore this trade.
Sactaglia isn’t incorrect in his analysis of what Moore brings to the table; he is indeed a security blanket. While Moore delivered some explosive plays down the stretch last season, his greatest impact comes on targets close to the line of scrimmage, when he’s given an opportunity to do some damage with space to operate.
That should sound eerily familiar to a receiver who’s already in KC: Rashee Rice.
There are plenty of questions about what Rice has going on off the field, but when he’s lined up alongside Mahomes and company, he thrives as a short-area receiver who can soak up underneath targets.
Moore’s skill set would be duplicative, and his arrival likely wouldn’t help the Chiefs’ offense reach the next level.
If Kansas City is going to hit the trading block this offseason, it should be targeting someone who can threaten defenses vertically. Unfortunately, Moore is not that player.
DJ Moore Stats
Moore is coming off a rough season from a production standpoint, but that’s likely due to the presence of several other talented pass catchers in Chicago.

85 targets
50 receptions
682 receiving yards
13.6 yards per reception
