Colts listed as a good fit to sign QB Russel Wilson as a backup for Daniel Jones
Here at A to Z Sports, a top-five free agency quarterback ranking was released on Monday. To no surprise, Jones was listed as the top QB and the Colts were listed as one of his best team fits. The fact that they were linked to another QB, though, is interesting.
Former Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson, who spent this past year with the New York Giants, came in as the fourth-best QB set to hit free agency. He seems past the point in his career where he will be considered as a starter, so if he wants to continue playing, he will have to accept being a backup going forward.Â
His team fits in those rankings, showing that as well, with the Colts joining the Atlanta Falcons and the Kansas City Chiefs. Adding a veteran like Wilson to be Jones’ backup could make a lot of sense. Especially if Jones isn’t at 100% to start the year for any reason.Â
Wilson would give the Colts a solid contingency plan for their backup QB if they actually move on from Richardson this offseason. His name nowadays causes fans to roll their eyes because his play has obviously dropped off. As a backup, though, he could be a real asset and is someone the Colts should at least consider if the price is right, come free agency.
