Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills head into the NFL offseason after yet another disappointing playoff exit, losing to the Denver Broncos in the Mile High City during the Divisional Round. It seemed like a missed opportunity given the competition in the AFC, but now the pressure is really on for the franchise to address its areas of need.
One of the most glaring problems for the Bills during the 2025 campaign was the lack of weapons at one-time NFL MVP Josh Allen‘s disposal downfield. Buffalo has had a problem at wide receiver for quite some time, but there’s a chance for some drastic upgrades to be made at that position in NFL free agency.
Mike Evans an Intriguing Option for Bills in NFL Free Agency

One player that would immediately upgrade the wide receiver position for the Bills in NFL free agency is veteran wideout Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Although Evans has spent his entire career with the Buccaneers and seems to have a good thing going with star quarterback Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay, the future Hall of Famer may explore his options during the offseason, with signing with the Bills being an intriguing one.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen makes a case for the Bills to be “aggressive” in an attempt to sign Evans.
A return to Tampa Bay is clearly an option for Evans, but becoming the top receiver in Buffalo with quarterback Josh Allen makes a lot of sense, too. Under new coach Joe Brady, Evans could be that boundary X target for Allen and create matchups in the low red zone. I like the idea of Buffalo getting aggressive to add a proven and reliable target who had topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark in 11 straight seasons before injuries derailed his 2025 campaign.
It doesn’t get much more consistent than Evans at the wide receiver position in the NFL, as he is incredibly dependable when healthy, racking up 1,000 receiving yards or more in every season he’s played except for the 2025 campaign due to playing only eight games because of injury.
As long as Evans is healthy, he’d be an ideal option for the Bills in free agency and something the team should explore to get Allen that target downfield that he’s been sorely missing since trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in 2024.
George Pickens Might Be What Bills Need

Another option to massively upgrade the wide receiver in Buffalo is All-Pro George Pickens of the Dallas Cowboys. Although it may be a stretch that the Bills can land Pickens, he may be an option, as Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report points out.
“Buffalo has an elite quarterback in Josh Allen, but it lacks a true go-to, No. 1 receiver,” Knox wrote. “Pickens, who racked up 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns this past season, could fill that role extremely well.
“Adding Pickens might be just what Buffalo needs to get over the proverbial playoff hump.”
It’ll be interesting to see what the Bills’ brass does to address the wide receiver position and whether that move finally puts them over the top.
