The Kansas City Chiefs have the worst cap space situation in the NFL this offseason.
The Chiefs are currently projected to be $54.9 million over the cap, which means cuts and restructures are coming in what could be a transition year for KC.
One player who could get cut, according to Matt Okada of NFL.com, is cornerback Kristian Fulton, who is entering the final year of his $20 million contract.
“It makes sense to start with Fulton, who carries a $13 million cap hit into 2026 after playing just eight games (starting two) and 41 percent of snaps in 2025. Fulton’s cap hit is just $632,000 lower than full-time starter Trent McDuffie, and while the Chiefs only save $5 million against the cap by cutting Fulton, Brett Veach and Co. need to free up every cent possible. Fulton simply did not play often enough or well enough to justify the money he’ll be due next year,” Okada said.
Fulton actually posted strong coverage numbers last season, giving up a completion rate of 55.6% and a passer rating of 81.7. But, as has been the case for much of his career, Fulton once again struggled with injury, limiting him to just eight games.
As a result, it’s possible the Chiefs will part ways with Fulton, which would save Kansas City $5 million. That’s not a lot, but every penny helps.
If Fulton is cut, the Bills and Packers are two logical landing spots.
Green Bay needs more competition for its cornerbacks room, especially after Nate Hobbs was a total bust in the first year of his $48 million contract.
The Bills have multiple question marks in their secondary. Tre’Davious White is a pending free agent and the jury is still out on Maxwell Hairston.
While there is obvious risk with signing Fulton because of his injury history, it’s a gamble both teams are probably willing to take given their tight cap space situations and the fact that Fulton could come cheap.
