Alec Pierce’s 2025 season solidified his emergence as one of the NFL’s most dangerous deep threats and has set the stage for a transformative free agency in 2026.
In 15 games with the Indianapolis Colts, Pierce recorded 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns while leading the league in yards per reception at 21.3 for the second consecutive season.
That level of explosiveness is rare in today’s NFL. His ability to stretch the field, win contested catches, and flip games with one play has made him one of the most valuable vertical weapons in football.
With his contract situation approaching a decision point, the Tennessee Titans could be positioned to make a serious run at him if the Colts don’t want to play ball with a major extension.

ESPN broke down this proposal:
“With the Titans in position to be active in free agency, I like Pierce in Tennessee under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Pierce has the vertical stretch ability to produce down the field and can play a volume role as a multilevel target for quarterback Cam Ward. Pierce averaged a league-best 21.3 yards per catch with the Colts in 2025.”
One of the biggest reasons Pierce could land in Tennessee is financial flexibility. The Titans are projected to enter the upcoming offseason with significant cap space compared to many receiver needy teams.
Depending on roster moves and restructures, Tennessee could have ample room to absorb a premium wide receiver contract without sacrificing roster depth.
Pierce is expected to command a deal in the range of 24 to 30 million dollars per year based on market trends for explosive playmakers. Tennessee’s ability to front load or structure a competitive offer makes them one of the more realistic suitors if Pierce reaches the open market.
Meanwhile, the Colts may face a more complicated cap situation. Indianapolis is projected to have roughly $36 million dollars in available space, but that figure shrinks quickly when factoring in potential re signings.
Daniel Jones is expected to command a substantial quarterback contract if the team commits to him long term. Quarterback salaries at the top end of the market often exceed 40 million dollars annually. At the same time, Michael Pittman Jr. is due a significant cap number as a primary target in the offense. Carrying a high cap hit at receiver while attempting to extend Jones could severely limit flexibility.
For Tennessee, adding Pierce would immediately upgrade their vertical passing game. His proven production, league leading efficiency, and age make him an ideal long term investment.
The Titans can offer opportunity, financial strength, and a featured role in the offense. If Indianapolis chooses to allocate resources toward Daniel Jones and Michael Pittman Jr., the path becomes clear for Pierce to test the market and potentially sign with Tennessee. The combination of cap space and need could make the Titans the most logical destination for one of the league’s premier deep threats.
