The Detroit Lions didn’t have the sort of season they hoped for in 2025, but there were a lot of factors.
One was injuries, and the other was losing both Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn to head coaching jobs, so a reshuffling for Dan Campbell’s coaching staff meant things were a little wobbly.
But now, as we turn to 2026, the Lions have to reload and get back to being the dominant force they were in 2024, and curb-stomping teams for fun.
But how do they do it? Adding some key pieces to fill some roster holes isn’t a bad way to do it. And with the Lions’ offense being set, adding someone on the defensive side could be the answer.
And ESPN’s Matt Bowen has named the Lions as the best fit for free agent edge Joey Bosa.
“The Lions had 16 sacks on third down last season (tied for 15th in the league), so Detroit could add Bosa to elevate its sub-package pass rush. Bosa, who had five sacks with the Bills in 2025, fits well opposite Aiden Hutchinson with his speed-to-power production and the effort level to clean up late in plays,” Bowen wrote.

Have Lions missed out on Super Bowl window?
Well, the 2024 season that saw them finish 15-2 was seen as their best shot, and now, with the Green Bay Packers still around the mark, the Chicago Bears with Caleb Williams trending upward, it is getting tougher just to make the postseason.
But there is enough talent on this team to be a perennial playoff team. We saw how fine the margins are last season, and at 9-8, the Lions didn’t even punch their ticket to the postseason.
This offseason appears to be a defining one, because if the franchise doesn’t correct the mistakes it made last season, then we might look back on the Lions’ Super Bowl window being open for a brief moment before it slammed shut.
