Anything can happen in NFL draft season.

NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah released his latest mock draft Tuesday, where he had the Dallas Cowboys bolstering their defense in the first round. At pick No. 12, Dallas added to its secondary by selecting Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy.

The 20th overall pick (which Dallas acquired in the Micah Parsons-Green Bay trade) brought up some intriguing possibilities. Jeremiah had the Cowboys adding to their defensive line by selecting Miami edge rusher Akheem Mesidor. Jeremiah also brought up the idea of trading the pick for a veteran cornerback.

“After taking a CB at No. 12, the Cowboys nab an edge rusher. Teams might have to get comfortable with Mesidor’s age — he will be a 25-year-old rookie — but he was dominant during Miami’s run in the College Football Playoff,” Jeremiah wrote. “Then again, if the Chiefs would take this pick in a trade for Trent McDuffie (entering the final year of his rookie deal), the Cowboys would solve their secondary issues in the blink of an eye.”

McDuffie has been a key part of Kansas City’s title-contending defense in recent years. He’s currently seeking a long-term deal after the Chiefs picked up his fifth-year option in 2025.

McDuffie has started 56 games in four years, posting 246 tackles, 34 pass deflections, eight forced fumbles and three interceptions.

Should the Cowboys consider trading one of their first-rounders to add experienced weapons to their defense?
