As the NFL offseason gets going, there is expected to be all sorts of movement taking place across the league. The free agent class is loaded with talent, and multiple teams are armed with cap space to spend this offseason.

One of the better players on the board this year is veteran running back Travis Etienne, who has spent his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars to this point. Etienne could be a lightning rod for any team that needs help at the running back position, and he is coming off an excellent year for Jacksonville.

After dealing with an injury-filled 2024 season, Etienne proved his worth and helped the Jaguars capture the AFC South division title. Etienne put up 1,107 yards rushing and seven touchdowns for the year, marking the third time in four years that he hit the 1,000-yard mark.

But Etienne has been a great pass-catching back as well during his career, and this could boost his value around the NFL. Other than Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers and Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles, Etienne is the only other running back to have over 30 catches and over 250 yards in each of the last four years.

In 2025, Etienne posted a statline of 36 catches for 292 yards and six scores this year. His production on the field was paramount to the Jaguars success, but it remains to be seen if Jacksonville will try to bring him back.

Jacksonville has other needs and other crucial free agents, which could see Etienne be left out in the dust. But if he can remain healthy going forward, Etienne is as electric as any running back in the entire league.

The market for Etienne is expected to be strong, with teams trying to pry him away from the Jaguars. But where he could land remains a mystery at this point in the offseason.

Kansas City Chiefs Land Travis Etienne

One team that could look to bring Etienne into the mix is the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City is likely to undergo some big changes this offseason, especially with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes missing time next year due to injury.

But this Chiefs franchise still wants to win, if they can, and this could see them look to boost the roster for when Mahomes eventually returns. Etienne could easily help the Chiefs’ backfield, as they were one of the worst units in the entire NFL last season.

Kansas City averaged less than 4.0 yards per carry in 2024, and neither of the multiple running backs on the roster produced at least 200 receiving yards. Overall, the Chiefs ranked No. 24 overall in rushing yards per contest, coming in at 106.6 per game, which isn’t great.

These struggles in the backfield were part of the reason why Kansas City missed the playoffs, so addressing the running back position will be key this offseason. If the Chiefs could land Etienne in free agency, not only would they be giving themselves a jolt, but also be weakening a fellow AFC rival in the process.
