Jimmy Garoppolo And The Bucs
February 18th, 2026
The Bucs seem to love everything with a tie to the Sean McVay offense in Los Angeles.
Heck, the Rams head coach himself sat down last year for the Buccaneers’ fancy documentary chronicling their 50-year history, Raise The Flags.Â
After watching Bucs backup Teddy Bridgewater play against those Rams last season, Joe thinks it’s reasonable to suggest the Bucs could use an upgrade at the position.
Enter Jimmy Garoppolo.
The veteran QB with 47 wins under his belt spent the past two seasons as Matt Stafford’s backup with McVay and the Rams. Garoppolo is a pending free agent who earned just $3 million.
Joe can’t think of a reason why the Bucs wouldn’t be interested in at least sniffing Garoppolo. He should be an easy fit into the Bucs’ new/tweaked McVay offense under former McVay quarterbacks coach and passing game czar Zac Robinson.
Also, Joe doesn’t see Baker Mayfield feeling threatened by Garoppolo, who turns 35 in November.
Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht brought Garoppolo in for a pre-draft visit back in 2014. The Bucs didn’t pick him and he was selected by the Patriots at No. 62 overall. Tampa Bay stuck with starting quarterback Josh McCown.
