Brian Daboll didn’t offer anything controversial when asked what he learned while coaching the Giants.
Brian Daboll didn’t have many words toward the end of his tenure as head coach of the New York Giants, and that trend continued.
The first-year Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator took the high road when asked what he learned while coaching the Giants before turning his focus to the Titans.
Daboll, of course, was fired by the Giants on Nov. 10 after going 20-40-1 as head coach. He was the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year and guided the Giants to the playoffs and won the franchise’s only playoff game since Super Bowl XLVI.
After New York replaced him with John Harbaugh, Daboll latched on as Titans offensive coordinator alongside head coach and former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh.
Brian Daboll Offered Little When Asked What He Learned While Coaching the Giants
Daboll interviewed for the head coach of the Buffalo Bills and passed on becoming the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator because he wanted to coach with Saleh in Nashville.
Daboll has worn many hats in his coaching tenure, which has spanned both the NFL and FBS in college. Aside from working with the Giants, he has been the Bills offensive coordinator and University of Alabama quarterbacks coach. Plus, he was a coach in the Bill Belichick-led New England Patriots dynasty while coaching offense and defense.
So even though he was one of the most highly coveted coordinators and potential head coaches this cycle, he didn’t exactly share publicly what he learned over his nearly four years in New York, opting to instead wax poetic about his career.
“This is my 26th year in the National Football League,” Daboll said at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. “There are a lot of things I learned along the way, whether as a defensive assistant, a quarterbacks coach, a receivers coach. You try to do a better job the next place you are at, and my role is to help our football team be the best offense we can be.”
Giants fans hoping to further hate the now-former coach got nothing additional. Maybe media savvy is what Daboll actually learned while working in the nation’s largest market.
Brian Daboll is ‘Excited’ to be in Nashville
Giants fans may be excited to see Daboll anywhere else but in Giants paraphernalia, but the now-former New York head coach is happy to be where he is, working for Saleh and with budding second-year quarterback Cam Ward.
“Whatever stop you’re at, I think the most important thing is to be where your feet are at, here in Tennessee,” Daboll said. “I’m excited to be here.
“I am very happy to be where I am at right now and be part of this football team as the offensive coordinator. I’m always going to be here for Robert and the rest of the staff, but that’s a hard chair to sit in and having some experience sitting in it will help me relative to being the best teammate I can be for this staff. This is the place I want to be. I’m excited to be here.”
