Steelers Now’s Jobe Morrison proposed the possibility of the Pittsburgh Steelers targeting defensive lineman Javon Hargrave for a reunion if he’s released this offseason.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will have almost an entire new coaching staff during the 2026 season. But that hasn’t stopped some pundits from suggesting several different reunions could be on the table for the team this offseason.
One potential reunion Steelers Now’s Jobe Morrison explored Thursday was the team bringing back defensive tackle Javon Hargrave.
The veteran began his career with the Steelers, playing in Pittsburgh from 2016-19. Over the past six years, he’s played for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings.
Entering 2026, the Vikings could cut Hargrave and save $11 million against the salary cap.
“Minnesota sits at $40M over the cap according to Spotrac. They will have to make extensive cuts and restructures before the new league year in just under three weeks,” wrote Morrison.
“The Vikings are also seeking a new general manager. Time is of the essence, and will certainly be under full pressure once they select one.”
Morrison then explored the possibility of Hargrave returning to the Steelers if released.
“It’s very likely he will be much cheaper on his next contract. Bringing him to Pittsburgh could help solidify depth on the defensive line as they move towards the NFL Draft,” wrote Morrison.
“If Hargrave returns, it likely won’t be as a starter. That makes things a possibility unless another team gives him one last payday–which is also possible.”
In four seasons with the Steelers, Hargrave posted 168 combined tackles. He also had 22 tackles for loss, 22 quarterback hits, 14.5 sacks, two pass defenses and two forced fumbles.
