The Kansas City Chiefs already have quite a few coaching staff changes in 2026, and we now know they’ll have at least one more.
The team has announced seven new hires for Andy Reid’s coaching staff after recent departures. The incoming staff includes DeMarco Murray (RBs), Chad O’Shea (WRs), Andre Curtis (S & DBs), Terry Bradden Jr. (Assistant DL), Nate Pagan (offensive quality control), and CJ Cox(defensive quality control).
With a new departure on Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive coaching staff, the team has made an in-house change, promoting a veteran coach to work alongside Brendan Daly with the linebackers.
Cardinals poaching Chiefs outside linebackers coach Rod Wilson
As first reported by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Arizona Cardinals are set to hire Chiefs outside linebackers coach Rod Wilson as their new inside linebackers coach. Wilson was actually in his second stint with Kansas City. He originally joined the coaching staff in 2017, replacing Brock Olivo as an assistant special teams coach. Wilson played linebacker in the NFL under Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub while with the Chicago Bears. Wilson left after winning a ring in Super Bowl LIV to coach the linebackers at his Alma Mater, the South Carolina Gamecocks. He rejoined Kansas City in 2022 as a defensive assistant and was promoted to outside linebackers coach in 2024.
Matt House to be promoted from senior defensive assistant to outside linebackers coach
The Chiefs haven’t officially announced anything yet, but they currently list Matt House as the outside linebackers coach on the team website. House spent three seasons in Kansas City as the team’s inside linebackers coach from 2019-2021, working with guys like Anthony Hitchens, Damien Wilson, Nick Bolton, and Willie Gay Jr. during the team’s Super Bowl LIV run and in the seasons after. He left Kansas City to become the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at LSU for two seasons in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ coaching staff, working with linebackers again, before returning to the Chiefs for the 2025 NFL season as a senior defensive assistant.
House’s promotion fits the theme of the offseason for the Chiefs, which has been to install some more veteran leadership on the coaching staff in key positions. He’ll work alongside Brendan Daly, but I also expect he’ll work closely with defensive quality control coach Chris Orr, who also has a background playing and coaching the linebacker position.
