It’s no secret the Minnesota Vikings are looking for a veteran quarterback to give J.J. McCarthy some competition before his third year in the league.

Earlier this month, Vikings running back Aaron Jones openly campaigned for his former Green Bay Packers teammate, Aaron Rodgers, to join Minnesota for the 2026 season.

“I like him in Minnesota,” Jones said on “Nightcap” during the week of the Super Bowl. “That’s my dog. What he brings to a locker room, that leadership, it’s a standard. If you ain’t in your playbook, oh, you ain’t seeing the field–he’s going to test you.

“He’s going to throw some signals out there, and he’s going to see if you really care about it. As a player, I love that because I’m in my books. I’m making an effort. Like, I came from Utah from nothing. Like, so I had to earn that. And when you do it the right way, and it’s noticed, it’s refreshing.”

However, Rodgers has yet to declare his plans for 2026. He could decide to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers and play under head coach Mike McCarthy, who was with him in Green Bay when they won Super XLV.

Or the 42-year-old quarterback could retire.

During an appearance on 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday, Aditi Kinkhabwala claimed she is hearing the Rodgers is more likely to retire this offseason than play for any team.

“Having spoken to people who were around him, who have been around him, most everyone that I’ve spoken to who has been around him feels that the chance that he comes back to play is minuscule,” Kinkhabwala said, via a transcription from Sporting News.

“In conversations with people who were around him all year who were with him when he was leaving the Steelers when the season was over, all of those people that I spoke to said that it seems far more likely that he is done than that he is going to return.”

If Rodgers chooses to retire this offseason, he can take pride in the fact that he went out after a successful season in Pittsburgh.

The four-time NFL MVP won the AFC North with the Steelers. Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
