Mac Jones

The NFL offseason is just getting underway, but with the NFL Combine a week a way, it is only a matter of time until coaches and executives all meet in on place and start to have discussions about their rosters.

In a year where the 2026 NFL Draft isn’t loaded with quarterback talent, it will lead to some teams heavily pursuing trades from the NFL teams that do have quarterback depth. One team in particular that will be involved in plenty of discussions is the San Francisco 49ers.

They just signed Brock Purdy to a five-year, $265 million extension last offseason, so they are tied to him for at least the next few seasons. This creates a situation with their backup, Mac Jones, who proved he could still be a starting quarterback last season when he played in place of Purdy when he was injured.

It will take a lot for the 49ers to move on from Jones, but if they can get the right trade package it could be possible. One potential team that could look to trade for Jones is the Arizona Cardinals.

San Francisco 49ers Trade Mac Jones to Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals moved on from Jonathan Gannon as their head coach and decided to hire Mike LaFleaur away from their rivals in the Los Angeles Rams to be their next head coach.

The biggest thing LaFleaur will have to figure out is the quarterback position. It seems unlikely that the Cardinals will keep Kyler Murray, and instead seem set to trade him this offseason.

The Cardinals need to find a quarterback that can bring the consistency needed back to the offense if they want to start to get any sort of stability back. A quarterback that the Cardinals can look to trade for that would provide this is Mac Jones.

In the games that Jones had to play in relief of Purdy. Jones led San Francisco to a 5-3 record while completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns with just six interceptions.

The ability to run the offense within the structure is exactly what LaFleur needs for his offense to translate to Arizona, especially after working with Matthew Stafford. With Mac Jones he would get the ideal quarterback who is someone he can also build around with Jones being just 27 years old.
