This past season saw the Philadelphia Eagles unable to defend their status as defending champions, ultimately losing in the Wild Card Round to the San Francisco 49ers.

Criticism arose regarding the inability of certain players to work together, with wide receiver AJ Brown among those mentioned often as a potential trade candidate. However, Brown seems as if he might want to continue playing for the Eagles and try to work toward another Super Bowl run.

Philadelphia has continued to rely on Jalen Hurts as their starting quarterback, but there are some who believe he might be the issue. The team hasn’t indicated any intention to move on from their QB1, but a recent prediction could give Hurts some concern regarding his future in Philly.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback

A prediction via Sports Illustrated’s Connor Orr suggests that Philadelphia will draft a quarterback in the second round of the NFL Draft. Whether that happens, and if that means the team is getting insurance with a young quarterback who could challenge for Hurts’ starting role remains to be seen, though.

Much like the SI prediction, Hurts was also a second-round pick. He joined Philadelphia in 2020 as their No. 53 pick and helped win them another Lombardi Trophy.

Some will contend that Saquon Barkley was a significant factor in the team’s Super Bowl-winning season, as he had a stellar rushing campaign. However, Hurts also did his share of running, scoring, and throwing touchdowns.

It’s unclear how good of a quarterback the Eagles could select in the second round of the upcoming draft. The No. 1 pick, held by the Las Vegas Raiders, will likely be Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza from Indiana, while there is also talk that Alabama’s Ty Simpson could be an early selection.

It remains to be seen which players are available at the Eagles’ draft spots. They hold the No. 23 pick in the first round, followed by No. 54 in the second round. They’ll also have a pick in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds to add to their roster this offseason.
