The Las Vegas Raiders‘ coaching staff under Klint Kubiak is filling up quickly. Many of the most important positions have been filled.

However, the team is still looking to add assistants. The offensive line was one of the biggest problem areas for the Raiders in 2025. Despite lacking a lot of NFL experience, Brennan Carroll was given the offensive line coach job last season due to the fact that he was the son of head coach Pete Carroll.

That turned out to be a disaster. The Raiders have already hired longtime coach Rick Dennison to be the head offensive line coach, but the team wants to give him more help. According to John Brice and Scott Rousell of FootballScoop, the Raiders are targeting new Georgia offensive line coach Phil Rauscher for a job on their staff.

“Georgia, now, is trying to keep Rauscher from a return to the NFL,” Rousell and Brice wrote. “Numerous sources, with ties to both the Georgia program and NFL, tell FootballScoop that Rauscher is being pursued by the Las Vegas Raiders to join the inaugural staff of new head coach Klint Kubiak.

“Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Rauscher has been approached by Kubiak’s Raiders for the role of running game coordinator.”

Rauscher & Kubiak Have History

Rauscher joined Georgia’s staff last year, but was recently promoted to offensive line coach. It would be a blow for the Bulldogs to lose their new offensive line coach so quickly.

However, they could be in trouble. Rauscher and Kubiak go way back. The two have coached together on the staffs for the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings. They haven’t coached together since 2021.

Rauscher would bring some good experience to the Raiders. He has been coaching in the NFL since 2015 and was part of the Broncos’ Super Bowl-winning staff. He has been the head offensive line coach for two different teams, so if Dennison doesn’t work out, the Raiders would have somebody to pivot to.

It sounds like the team is targeting him to be their run game coordinator. Kubiak is going to want to run the ball with Ashton Jeanty early and often, so this will be an important hire for the coach if he can make it happen.

Rauscher Has a Buyout

Though Georgia can’t block Rauscher from leaving for the NFL, they can make it difficult. According to FootballScoop, the coach does have a hefty buyout in his contract.

“One source told FootballScoop President Scott Roussel, ‘It’s a work in progress … (Rauscher) has a big buyout (at Georgia)’ while another source added, ‘Ball is in (Rauscher’s) court from what I understand.’”

The Raiders may not want to spend extra money to hire a run game coordinator, but if Kubiak thinks he’s valuable, it’s hard to see the team stopping him. The ball might be in Rauscher’s court. He just got promoted, and Georgia is one of the best programs in college football. At the same time, most of his experience is at the NFL level. The pros could be where he prefers to be coaching.
