In the coming days, I’ll be doing brief synopses for each NFL team regarding their current cap situation and offseason approach they should take.

We’ll start with the teams that have the most cap space available, then work our way down to those teams who have less cap space, to those who have work to do to gain cap space.

Each synopsis will look at cap space (or how much over the cap), players under contract, total draft picks, any players with a fifth-year option decision ahead and notes about the most notable free agent, the most likely player cut and the quarterback situation.

In this installment, we’ll look at the Green Bay Packers.

Players under contract for 2026: 66

Projected cap space: $1.4M over the cap

Total draft picks: Eight (no first round pick)

Most notable free agent: Rasheed Walker

Most likely roster cut: Elgton Jenkins

Fifth-year option decision: Lukas Van Ness

Quarterback situation: Jordan Love is the unquestioned starter.

The ideal offseason approach:

The Packers decided to extend head coach Matt LaFluer and, even though Love isn’t an elite QB, the job is clearly his. As for the coming offseason, the Packers have no first-round pick, so they may have to explore free agency to improve the team.

To do so, they must find ways to clear cap space. Jenkins is likely gone and the Packers might want to trade Devonte Wyatt if they don’t plan to extend him. They may even need to consider cutting Josh Jacobs to help the cap situation.

By moving on from Jenkins and Jacobs and trading Wyatt, the Packers would get themselves in a better position to explore free agency or re-sign free agents they want to keep. From there, they should do what they can in the draft to fill out the roster.
