In the coming days, I’ll be doing brief synopses for each NFL team regarding their current cap situation and offseason approach they should take.
We’ll start with the teams that have the most cap space available, then work our way down to those teams who have less cap space, to those who have work to do to gain cap space.
Each synopsis will look at cap space (or how much over the cap), players under contract, total draft picks, any players with a fifth-year option decision ahead and notes about the most notable free agent, the most likely player cut and the quarterback situation.
In this installment, we’ll look at the Buffalo Bills
Players under contract for 2026: 58
Projected cap space: $12.3M over the cap
Total draft picks: Seven (No. 26 in first)
Most notable free agent: Joey Bosa
Most likely roster cut: Curtis Samuel
Fifth-year option decision: Dalton Kincaid
Quarterback situation: Josh Allen is the unquestioned starter.
The ideal offseason approach:
After parting ways with Sean McDermott and promoting Joe Brady to head coach, the Bills enter another season in which they need to reassess. They already have an option bonus in Allen’s contract for 2026, though they could do a small restructure with his base salary if they wish.
But the Bills may need to cut or trade some of their older players to address their cap situation. Along with cutting Samuel, they may need to trade Dawson Knox and possibly renegotiate salaries with a couple of players.
The Bills can afford to let most of their free agents depart and utilize the draft to address their roster needs. They can bring back a couple of free agents after they’ve tested the market, but they shouldn’t be trying to make a splash.
