Former Packers quarterback Taylor Elgersma has received an invitation to the 2026 NFL Draft Combine

The Green Bay Packers have had a busier-than-expected start to the offseason. While head coach Matt LaFleur is sticking around after signing a new contract shortly after the team’s playoff defeat vs. the Chicago Bears, several key members of his coaching staff have been replaced in preparation for the new season.

Soon enough, the Packers will turn their attention to their roster, with several spots standing out as areas of need. One position Green Bay appears to be well fortified at is the quarterback position, although you can never have too much depth at the most important spot in the game of football. With that in mind, this intriguing update regarding one of the Packers’ former quarterbacks, Taylor Elgersma, will surely catch fans’ attention.

Former Packers QB Taylor Elgersma Receives 2026 NFL Draft Combine Invite

Elgersma is one of the more unique quarterback prospects in recent memory. Born and raised in Canada, Elgersma attended college at Wilfrid Laurier, where he put himself on the radar of several NFL teams. While he didn’t get selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, he latched on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent.

While Elgersma was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2025 Canadian Football League Draft, he has made it clear he wants to pursue a career in the NFL. He spent the summer with the Packers, but he got released as part of their final roster cuts. Since then, Elgersma has worked out for several other teams, but he has yet to find a new home in the NFL.

Heading into 2026, Elgersma has some options on his plate. On one hand, he was selected by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2026 United Football League Draft, but he also earned himself an invitation to the 2026 NFL Draft Combine, where he will help throw to other positions during the various combine drills.

“Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma has accepted an invite to the 2026 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, per sources,” Justin Dunk of 3 Down Nation reported. “He becomes the second U Sports QB ever invited to the NFL Combine, joining Acadia University star Larry Jusdanis who attended the showcase event in 1995.”

While he doesn’t have a home in the NFL yet, the fact that Elgersma has earned this unique invitation indicates that teams are interested in giving him a longer look. Elgersma could also suit up for the Stallions in the UFL, which plays its games during the winter and spring months, to give teams across the pros a better understanding of what he’s capable of.

At this stage of the game, the Packers don’t really have a need for Elgersma anymore, but the work he put in with the team during training camp last year could help him earn his next opportunity. His situation is certainly unique, but Elgersma is a prospect who will be worth keeping tabs on at the combine, even though he isn’t technically participating in any drills.
