A Dallas Cowboys helmet
Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are heading into the NFL offseason with a few clear needs that needs to be addressed.
After missing out on the playoffs last season with a 7-9-1 record, the Cowboys have a lot of work to do in order to get back to being a Super Bowl contender. There are a few needs that stand out above the rest.
First off, Dallas will need to figure out the future of rising star wide receiver George Pickens. He is set to be a free agent and will need to receive a new contract, have the franchise tag placed on him, or be traded away. It seems very unlikely that the Cowboys will part ways with Pickens this offseason.
When that decision is made, Jones will need to turn his attention to improving the defense.
Dallas will need to add help in the secondary. The Cowboys could also use another pass rusher to help replace the void that the Micah Parsons trade left.
That being said, Dallas has been linked to potentially stealing a free agent cornerback from an NFC opponent.
Dallas Cowboys Could Poach Defensive Back from Chicago Bears
USA Today’s Nate Davis has taken a look at the top 100 NFL free agents on the market this offseason. One cornerback he suggested the Cowboys could be a suitor for is Nahshon Write of the Chicago Bears.
Along with Dallas, Davis suggested that the Bears and Seattle Seahawks could be logical destinations for Wright as well.
“Though he’s already 27, he’s hardly a finished product,” Davis wrote. “He’s also a 6-4, 199-pound corner who led the NFL with eight takeaways (5 INTs, 3 fumble recoveries) after becoming a surprise starter (and surprise first-time Pro Bowler) for the Chicago Bears. The upside and production spike are going to make Wright rich.”
Wright is coming off of a good 2025 season with Chicago. He played in all 17 regular season games and racked up 80 total tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, five interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 11 interceptions.
Nahshon Wright Could Be the Missing Piece for the Cowboys
Bringing in a playmaker like Wright in the secondary would be a big step in the right direction for the Cowboys’ defense.
At 27 years old, Wright could be a long-term pickup for Dallas. He’s capable of coming in and immediately making a huge impact, while also being a piece that Jones and the Cowboys can build around into the future.
Spotrac has projected that Wright will command a contract in the range of three years and $50 million. It’s a high price tag, but he’s worth the money.
With more room to continue developing his game, Wright will be one of the most underrated free agents on the market. Chicago would like to retain him, but it would not be surprising to see Dallas swoop in and try to steal him away.
