I’ve been going through film on Buffalo Bills unrestricted free agents and there’s been a pretty clear refrain so far. “Keep if the price is right.” That’s not a weird outcome, for the record. Players with such high value that it’s an easy decision would have had contracts negotiated, and therefore not show up in a free-agent article.
For what I do, there’s not much value in reviewing players where the consensus is that there’s no harm in letting them go. So naturally this series lends itself to that middle ground. We take a quick detour for this edition though by “reviewing” fullback Reggie Gilliam.
I’m no contract guru, but you don’t need to be to know that Gilliam landing back in Buffalo won’t break the bank with a fair deal. His high value on special teams (over 76% of snaps) and the running game make this an easy decision. Let’s watch some film anyway.
I didn’t even wait for the conclusion section so my opinion will be no surprise. Reggie Gilliam has a ton of value in this offense in the fullback role, and I don’t see any reason to rock the boat for the position. Gilliam is a solid back for blocking, shoving Josh Allen by the backside, and his 100% catch rate this past season (and two others) ain’t bad. Sure it comes on low target numbers, but Gilliam poses enough real threat as a receiver where decoy snaps have real value. Bring him back!
