Early in the 2025 season, the San Francisco 49ers needed help at wide receiver, so they signed Kendrick Bourne after Week 1 for backup quarterback Mac Jones to throw to, with Brock Purdy suffering a toe injury in the opener.
Bourne’s deal was incentive-laden, and after catching 37 passes for 551 yards in 57% of the team’s offensive snaps, Bourne had earned an extra $1.24 million in bonuses.
Now, after seeing the New England Patriots give wide receiver Mack Hollins a $400,000 incentive that he failed to hit due to a lacerated spleen, Bourne is looking for the 49ers to help him out.
Bourne’s use of emojis at the end of the social media post indicates that he’s joking, but he definitely wishes San Francisco had given him the extra money he missed.
Had Bourne caught another eight passes for 49 more yards, he would’ve made an additional $750,000. Even as a millionaire, losing out on that much money for just a few more plays has to sting.
