The Dallas Cowboys are not yet putting a timetable on negotiations with wide receiver George Pickens, Stephen Jones said Monday.

In the meantime, however, Jones did confirm in Indianapolis the Cowboys are planning to place a franchise tag on George Pickens, which would lock him up for the 2026 season.

A person with knowledge of the club’s thinking told The Dallas Morning News over the weekend the Cowboys were expected to place the tag on Pickens as the sides try to work out a long-term deal

“It’ll take time. We want Pickens here. I think the world of him,” Jones said.

Pickens, in the words of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, was everything the Cowboys could’ve hoped for and more during the 2025 season after they acquired him from Pittsburgh. He had a career year, catching 93 passes for 1,429 yards — third in the NFL — and nine touchdowns.

Dallas would like to retain Pickens, but it will cost them. Pickens has a market value for an annual contract that exceeds $30 million per year, according to Spotrac.

The projected franchise tag number for wide receivers is a one-year deal valued at over $28 million, according to Over The Cap.
