General manager Adam Peters brings back the respected offensive lineman to provide leadership and stability in the trenches.
ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders made a move before heading to Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, locking offensive lineman Andrew Wylie into a new two-year deal.
A source confirmed the news to WUSA9, and the veteran’s new deal with the Commanders is worth up to $10.5 million over the next two years.
Wylie first joined the team under head coach Ron Rivera but remained when Dan Quinn arrived, becoming a valuable member of the offensive line rotation throughout his time with the team. Before leaving for the offseason, sources told us the team and the veteran were working on a deal to keep him in Washington, and now the deal is done.
Conerly arrival shifted Wylie to versatile backup
After starting 29 regular-season games and all three playoff games in his first two seasons with the team, Wylie started just five in 2025 due to the arrival of first-round right tackle Josh Conerly Jr. and the return of injured right guard Sam Cosmi.
Still, the veteran showcased his versatility and value by taking snaps at right guard and serving on the field goal team. He also saw time as an eligible lineman, lined up as an inline tight end on heavy sets.
Advanced stats highlight reliable pass blocking
Finishing the year with a 97 pass blocking efficiency rating, Wylie allowed just nine pressures all season and was credited with just one sack according to Pro Football Focus’s advanced stat tracking service.
Veteran leadership anchors Washington offensive line
One of the best ways he impacted his 2025 teammates, however, may have come in the form of veteran leadership and stability in a season that was anything but stable.
“This year really kind of brings back how I entered the league,” Wylie told me near the end of the season. “Play anything, do anything to get on the field. …I think something from the whole team, it’s kind of just been a next man up mentality, and that’s kind of the way it’s always been here.”
With Wylie inked to a new deal, the Commanders have four of their five starters and a key swing tackle back for 2026. The only starter not currently under contract is left guard Chris Paul, while Brandon Coleman, Nick Allegretti, and Wylie all bring varying levels of experience to hold down the role if needed or serve as valuable depth for the 2026 run.
Considering how injured Washington was last season, and even though the offensive line escaped much of that damage, it’s a smart move for general manager Adam Peters to bring back someone as respected in the locker room as Wylie is, and as willing to do whatever the team needs as he is as well.
He’s a true Commander in the way you hear Peters and Quinn talk about what that is, and now he’ll be one for another two years.
