The Buffalo Bills should actively pursue a top-notch wide receiver this offseason, potentially looking to sign one from a rival team.
The Dolphins parted ways with wide receiver Tyreek Hill on Feb. 16, making him free to sign with any team he chooses. Since Miami released Hill, he is eligible to sign at any time, without having to wait until the new league year starts on March 11.
Bills Predicted to Land Tyreek Hill
Buffalo should do everything in its power to sign Hill. Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr predicted that the Bills will sign Hill this offseason.
“While I think the chase for Hill will be closer to the post-hype “chase” for Odell Beckham Jr.—less of a drama and more about which team is willing to shell out even the slightest of guarantees—he is good enough to warrant the curiosity of a team on the doorstep,” Orr wrote on Friday. “Brandon Beane and new head coach Joe Brady have been on a PR blitz this offseason to counteract the firing of Sean McDermott. Pacifying the fan base by showing interest in a slew of brand-name wide receivers is one of the fastest ways to alter public perception.”
Hill is an eight-time Pro Bowler, with his last appearance coming in 2023. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs before being traded to Miami in 2022, where he has played for the past four seasons.
This past season, Hill appeared in only four games, racking up 265 yards and two touchdowns due to a serious knee injury. He underwent surgery in late September to repair multiple torn ligaments and his ACL.
Hill is Feeling Good After His Injury
Although it has been around five months since Hill underwent surgery, he mentioned in an earlier interview with People.com on Feb. 12 that he is beginning to feel better.
“I’m feeling good. I mean, I’m walking with no brace on right now,” he tells PEOPLE exclusively, via Skyler Caruso. “I’m in my second week of walking with no brace, so I’m proud of that. So I’m feeling good.”
Even though Hill faced a serious injury last season, the Bills can’t let that affect their pursuit to sign him. Hill has been outstanding throughout his first ten NFL seasons when he’s healthy, and Buffalo needs to bring in a speedy wide receiver who can stretch the field for Josh Allen and the rest of the offense.
The Bills can’t risk letting Hill join a team they could face in the playoffs, such as the Chiefs, or even a divisional rival like the New England Patriots.
One positive aspect of the Bills’ pursuit of Hill is that they won’t have to give up anything to acquire him. If they had to part ways with draft picks, it would be a different story, but since he’s available to sign, there’s no reason the Bills shouldn’t fully commit. When Buffalo decided to part ways with McDermott, it was clear that the goal was to reach the Super Bowl, and its offseason strategy should reflect the urgency to go all out for a championship.
