The 2026 NFL Draft is not necessarily considered to be a deep class at the wide receiver position and though that is a spot the Denver Broncos need to add more firepower at, is taking the sixth wide receiver in the first round a great move?
That is the direction the team decides to go in the latest mock draft put forth by Blake Brockermeyer of CBS Sports. With the No. 30 overall selection, the Broncos select Washington Huskies wide receiver Denzel Boston.Â
The Broncos took the sixth quarterback of the first round in 2024 and to this point, that has worked out well. But are there really six first-round worthy wide receivers in this draft?
“A big-bodied receiver who profiles more as a possession target capable of bodying up defenders than a true deep threat. He has very dependable hands and is a contested-catch, red-zone nightmare for defenders. Boston works the middle of the field and the sidelines well and finished the season with just one drop”, wrote Brockermeyer.Â

Denzel Boston is an intriguing player, to be sure. He has the size and athleticism to come into the league and make a quick impact. The question for the Broncos will be, is this the best way to attack the wide receiver position?
The team clearly needs a more dynamic No. 1 option than Courtland Sutton. The Broncos could trade for a player such as A.J. Brown or Jaylen Waddle and have Sutton serve in more of a No. 2 supportive-type role, which he is best suited for at this stage in his career.Â

If the team were to go in that direction, then using a first-round pick on another wide receiver doesn’t make much sense. If the Broncos are unable to find a top-flight option via trade or in free agency, then they could consider picking a player such as Boston, but that should be the pivot, rather than the designed plan of attack.
