The Dolphins are being pushed to trade for Jalen Milroe
The Miami Dolphins are in the middle of a rebuild. After handing out large contracts to players like Tyreek Hill, Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Ramsey, Bradley Chubb and Zach Sieler, the team failed to meet expectations the previous two seasons and that has resulted in the Dolphins cutting ties with most of the previously mentioned players.
However, due to their large contracts, the team has the second-most dead money in the NFL, which means a large portion of their salary cap is used on players who are no longer a part of the roster. Once the Tua Tagovailoa situation is resolved, the Dolphins will likely be first in the NFL, overtaking the New York Jets. Unlike the Jets, who received two first-round picks for Sauce Gardner, the Miami Dolphins do not have as much draft capital, which makes their rebuilding process more difficult.
Ultimately, at the top of the list of priorities for the Dolphins is finding a quarterback for the 2026 season. The Dolphins have several options at the position. They could either stick with Quinn Ewers, who started the final three games of the season for Miami and displayed positive signs, or they could go out and find someone on the open market. A new idea has the Dolphins trading a draft pick in exchange for a dual-threat quarterback who is currently buried in the Seahawks depth chart.
Miami Dolphins Pushed to Trade for Jalen Milroe
Bleacher Report writer Alex Ballentine released a list featuring one hypothetical trade for each NFL team. For the Miami Dolphins, he went outside the box as he had them trading for Seahawks backup quarterback Jalen Milroe, who Seattle selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
In the trade, the Dolphins would give up one of their three third-round selections and land the Seahawks dual-threat quarterback. Ballentine wrote, “One of the first questions they’ll have to figure out is what to do at the quarterback position. It feels like Tua Tagovailoa’s time has come to an end in South Beach and Quinn Ewers didn’t do enough as a seventh-round rookie to secure the job next year. The only problem is the Dolphins have one of the worst cap situations in the league. That doesn’t even factor in the cap hit they could absorb if they move on from Tagovailoa.
The Seahawks’ success with Sam Darnold this season leaves an unclear path to playing time for Jalen Milroe. The rookie has intriguing tools after running a 4.37 40-yard dash. That kind of electric athleticism combined with his passing is reminiscent of Malik Willis.”
Jalen Milroe Prospect Profile
Coming into the 2025 NFL Draft, Bleacher Report described him as, “The most physically gifted quarterback prospect in the draft class. He is one of the most explosive athletes at any position in college football.
Milroe epitomizes the term “dual-threat quarterback.” He brings outstanding speed and acceleration to defeat pursuit angles. His dynamic athleticism opens the offensive playbook and play-calling. Milroe thrives with a variety of designed QB run calls like, QB veer, zone read, QB Power, etc. He creates explosive plays on the ground and is a threat at any moment. His athleticism will force teams to play 11-on-11 and account for him in the game plan.”
Unfortunately, question markes remain around Mirloe, despite his athleticism he is unproven and raw, as his skills as a pocket passer have been questioned. Whether the Dolphins want to take a chance on an unproven quarterback who would have to step into a difficult situation with not much talent around him remains to be seen.
