The New England Patriots might look to sign a pass rusher this offseason, especially with the uncertainty surrounding K’Lavon Chaisson’s return next season, as he will enter free agency.
If the Patriots are considering signing a veteran defensive end, they should steer clear of bringing in Buffalo Bills pass rusher Joey Bosa.
Bosa just wrapped up his 10th NFL season and his first with the Buffalo Bills. He played in 15 games, recording nine tackles for loss and five sacks while forcing five fumbles. He also graded out well with Pro Football Focus, ranking him as the 17th-best defensive end.
However, Bosa comes with significant risk regarding his ability to stay on the field. Although he played in 29 games over the past two seasons, he missed a chunk of games in 2022 and 2023, making only 14 appearances. Additionally, he had a season in 2018 in which he played seven games.
The Patriots can’t afford to bring in a player with a known track record of missing games. New England is right on the verge of winning a Super Bowl, and it needs players who can stay healthy.
Spotrac recently listed Bosa’s market value as around $13.7 million per season, which would be a hefty sum for the Patriots to pay. They could use that money to shore up other positions on the team.
