Joey Bosa and his brother Nick could team up with the 49ers.
T
he offseason is in full swing for the San Francisco 49ers. Coming off of a 12-5 season before losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round, the 49ers main goal this offseason is to return to being Super Bowl contenders. A lot of work will need to be done and a lot of decisions will be made, but the 49ers are determined to get back to being the class of the NFC.
The 49ers have a lot of talent on their roster but at the same time, they have a lot of holes to fill. Coming off of serious injuries are Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, George Kittle and others, but those same guys are also a year older while also needing to address weaknesses at several positions such as wide receiver, offensive line and pass rush. But in a recent article done by The Athletic, there are some names that the 49ers could go after, including a former AFC West star.
Could Joey Bosa be a Name to Watch for the 49ers?
After Bosa went down with a torn ACL early in the season, the 49ers’ defensive line became the worst in the NFL, finishing dead last in the league in sacks. And not generating a pass rush is a problem, especially in today’s NFL when quarterbacks are much more athletic. Finding pass rush help will be key for the 49ers and while getting a guy like Maxx Crosby in a trade would be the preferable choice, he will cost too much. That’s why The Athletic listed Joey Bosa as a player who the 49ers could look to sign on a short-term, cheaper deal.
“There are less intriguing options than Crosby on the free-agent market but ones whom the 49ers must also explore,” The Athletic’s Vic Tafur wrote. “Perhaps Trey Hendrickson, Khalil Mack or Joey Bosa on a one-year deal, or maybe former Niner Arden Key on a much cheaper, multiyear contract. Bosa, who will be 31 when the season starts, would cost less than Mack and would like the chance to play with his brother. There has been some slippage, but Bosa produced his best pressure rate last season since 2022.”
Bosa has had injury issues of his own, but overall, he has had a very productive NFL career. Adding him would give the 49ers an established veteran who has shown that he still has a lot left in the tank and can be a tremendous help to whichever team signs him. Not to mention that he would reunite with his brother, Nick, if he joins the 49ers.
Bosa’s 2025 Season
Released by the Chargers franchise after the 2024 season, Bosa signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills for the ’25 season. In Buffalo, Bosa played in and started his most amount of games (15) since 2021 and finished with five sacks, nine tackles for loss and two passes defended– while ending the season as the NFL’s forced fumbles leader with five.
Bosa may be on the wrong side of 30, but if he plays like he did last season, the team that signs him is going to be very happy.
