ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The United Football League has had conversations with St. Louis CITY SC about potentially moving St. Louis Battlehawks home games from The Dome at America’s Center to Energizer Park, First Alert 4 confirmed on Monday.
UFL co-owner Mike Repole said most of the league’s other teams play in soccer stadiums and that the league is exploring whether that model makes sense in St. Louis.
The Battlehawks lead the UFL in attendance, but numbers have declined since the league relaunched in 2023. That year, the team averaged more than 35,000 fans per game. Last season, that average dropped to just under 30,000.
Repole said the size of the venue is a factor in how games feel to attendees.
“When you have 10,000 to 15,000 in a dome that fits 65,000, it’s empty,” Repole said. “When you have 10 to 15 thousand in a stadium that fits 15 to 25, it’s packed.”
Energizer Park has a capacity of approximately 22,000.
Repole said no decision has been made and that he intends to gather input before moving forward.
“Would a Battlehawk game look and feel different if we played in a sold-out soccer stadium? I’m not sure,” Repole said. “But I’m gonna tell you right now I’m going to listen to the fans, I’m going to listen to the experts in the market, I’m going to listen to the local sponsors that we have. I mean, I want to do what’s right for the city.”
Explore St. Louis, the city’s tourism agency, issued a statement saying it is “committed to the Battlehawks’ continued success and to keeping professional football strong in St. Louis, no matter the venue.”
The agency said the dome hosts an average of 600,000 guests per year for concerts, conventions and other events, generating more than $200 million for the local economy.
CITY SC confirmed their leadership has had conversations with the UFL about the Battlehawks moving to Energizer Park and said they are open to having such discussions.
However, the club added it has not found a way to hold football games and protect the game for soccer matches.
The Battlehawks will play their home games in 2026 at the Dome at America’s Center.
