Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow spoke at length with reporters early this week and inevitably hit on the topic of Trey Hendrickson’s contract saga with the team.
Burrow addressed the topic of contract extensions for his teammates across the board, though, too. In doing so, the star quarterback was asked what the extensions for big names like Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and even Mike Gesicki mean for the franchise now.
“It says they’re invested in winning,” Burrow said. “I think they want to reward guys that they draft that come in and play great. I think that’s a recipe for success.”

That’s quite a bit different from Burrow’s comments late last season about not letting good players get away due to contractual reasons.
At the time of those past comments, Bengals fans surely had names like Jessie Bates and DJ Reader on the mind ahead of both Higgins and Chase needing new deals.
And while Burrow repeatedly said he doesn’t want to massively impact the contract situations of other players, he’s undoubtedly having a big impact.
As Burrow noted this week via what was effectively praise of the moves, it’s likely going to help the team contend again, too.
