Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said Tuesday that he and quarterback Kyler Murray have talked this offseason about how the 2025 campaign went amid trade rumors.
According to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss, a source refuted Ossenfort’s claim and said that the two sides have not talked since the season ended in early January.
Ossenfort was asked at the NFL combine on Tuesday whether he and Murray had touched base since the end of the season.
“Yeah, I’ve always had a good dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort said. “And I’d say [last season] wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted. It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted as a season as a whole.
“And, so, when you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and so we got to find a way to do that, not only at that position, in all positions, but that’s what we’re all focused on, is getting better and moving forward.”
Murray played just five games in 2025, throwing for 962 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions before suffering a foot injury that kept him out the rest of the season.
Murray, who is due $22.8 million in base salary in 2026, has been involved in both trade rumors and release rumors this offseason. He’s owed $19.5 million fully guaranteed from his 2027 salary if he is on the roster past March 16, so it seems a decision regarding his future could come sooner rather than later.
New head coach Mike LaFleur said last week that no decision had been made regarding Murray’s future with the team.
“Just like everything else on the roster, open conversations in this building,” LaFleur said. “No timeframe on that.”
Murray’s future with the organization appears to be up in the air still, but the fact that he and Ossenfort haven’t talked in over a month could be an indication that the team is ready to move in a different direction.
