Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Brad Idzik can now add “play-caller” and “jokester” to his résumé.
On Tuesday, during the team’s media availability at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, head coach Dave Canales announced that he will be handing over offensive play-calling duties to Idzik. The 34-year-old, who has spent the last few seasons as Canales’ “primary architect,” is now set to assume the role for the first time in his NFL career.

So, how has he been readying for it? Well, Idzik offered up a hilarious response to reporters this afternoon . . .
Kidding aside, Idzik has been prepped through five years under Canales. Before he was hired as Carolina’s offensive coordinator in 2024, Idzik served alongside Canales as an assistant in Seattle from 2019 to 2022, then as the wide receivers coach for Tampa Bay in 2023.
Idzik also talked about that relationship from the combine . . .
Idzik, Canales and the Panthers will look to improve on a unit that ranked 27th in total offense this past season.
