The NFL has revealed that one of the more controversial calls from the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ 2025 season — Aaron Rodgers’ near-interception ruled catch in Week 14 — was an officiating mistake.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith, a league spokesman confirmed that the replay review of Rodgers’ Week 14 catch was incorrect and it should’ve been ruled as an interception made by Baltimore Ravens linebacker Teddye Buchanan.
With the Steelers leading the Ravens 27-22 with around six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Rodgers’ pass attempt was batted down by Ravens defensive tackle C.J. Okoye and was ruled an interception by Buchanan. Replay review overturned the play in favor of Pittsburgh.
Additionally, NFL Executive VP of Football Operations Troy Vincent suggested that another replay reversal from the game, on Isaiah Likely’s touchdown, was also wrong. Lamar Jackson quickly took to social media to celebrate the report.
It hardly matters whether or not Rodgers was intercepted or Likely caught the touchdown two months later, but it’s interesting timing as the league criticizes calls with the NFLRA collective bargaining agreement set to expire in a few months.
