A former Carolina Panthers defender has been released.
As announced on Monday, the Tennessee Titans have parted ways with safety Xavier Woods. The veteran defensive back had played three seasons with the Panthers.
A three-time first-team All-Conference USA selection out of Louisiana Tech University, Woods was taken by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He’d follow up a four-year stint there with a one-year stop for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021.
Woods began his tenure in Carolina on a three-year deal, $15.7 million deal ahead of the 2022 campaign. He went on to start in each of his 46 games over that span—totaling 266 combined tackles, five interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
After his time was up as a Panther, Woods was signed by the Titans last March to a two-year, $10 million pact. His lone campaign in Tennessee saw him record 10 starts in 11 games—with 39 tackles, two interceptions and a sack.
