Most expect the Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Kyler Murray to part ways this offseason.
The relationship has seemingly turned toxic amid Murray’s injury struggles and the fact that newly hired head coach Mike LaFleur will likely want to start his tenure with his own hand-picked signal-caller.
But whether Arizona trades Murray or cuts him is still up in the air. Whichever option the Cardinals take, Murray seems to be in the loop on what’s going on, at least according to general manager Monti Ossenfort, who admitted during the NFL combine on Tuesday that he’s spoken with Murray about his future.
“Yeah, I’ve always had a good dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort told reporters. “And I’d say [last season] wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted. It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted as a season as a whole.
“And, so, when you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and so we got to find a way to do that, not only at that position, in all positions, but that’s what we’re all focused on, is getting better and moving forward.”

However, despite Ossenfort’s remarks, ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss refuted his claims, stating that there’s actually been zero contact between the two sides in recent weeks.
“After Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said that he has talked with quarterback Kyler Murray to discuss how last season unfolded, a source told ESPN that the two have not talked since the season ended,” Weinfuss wrote.
The 28-year-old Murray was limited to just five games this year after suffering a season-ending foot injury.
In seven seasons with the Cardinals, he’s totaled 20,460 yards passing, 121 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions with a 92.2 passer rating. Murray’s also logged 3,193 yards rushing and another 32 scores while also making two Pro Bowls.
Given Murray’s $52.6 million cap hit, it’s unlikely the Cardinals would get much in return for him via trade.
