The New York Jets are receiving their flowers.

ESPN’s Seth Walder gave the Jets an “A-” grade following their trade with the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee received EDGE Jermaine Johnson, and the Jets got back nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat in exchange.

The Titans received a “C-” for swapping Sweat out for Johnson.

“For all their faults, the Jets came out of last year’s trade deadline with two of the very best deals in that period. While hardly on the same scale, they kicked off the 2026 trade season with another shrewd move in swapping out Johnson for Sweat in a one-for-one swap,” Walder explained.

“Sweat, a 2024 second-round pick, has been a solid starting nose tackle for Tennessee. He should help the Jets’ run defense and provide some pass rush from the nose. While his 6.5% pass rush win rate at defensive tackle is below average for the position, it’s not bad considering where he lines up. He’ll join a Jets interior group that includes Harrison Phillips and Jowon Briggs,” Walder wrote.

“Johnson is playing on his fifth-year option and will cost Tennessee $13.4 million, per OverTheCap. By contrast, Sweat has two years left on his rookie deal and will cost the Jets just $1.6 and $2.1 million in each of those years, respectively. Sweat is also younger and, in my view, has a better chance to be a plus contributor than Johnson. That makes this deal well worth it for New York, especially considering the Jets will get a player with another year of team control for less money,” Walder concluded.

The Jets Are on a Titans Trade Winning Streak

General manager Darren Mougey and Titans GM Mike Borgonzi are developing quite a friendship. This is the second trade the duo has pulled off in less than a year.

Last year, the Jets flipped a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Titans for cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

Essentially, the Jets picked up Brownlee’s contract, and all they had to do was move back a little bit later in April’s draft on day three.

ESPN’s Seth Walder graded that trade the same way. The Jets received an “A-” while the Titans got a “C-.”

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic revealed that the Sweat deal was the eighth player trade that Mougey has pulled off.

He has shipped off four players and four day three draft selections. In exchange, he has received eight players and four picks within the first two rounds of the NFL draft.

Darren Mougey has already completed eight player trades in a little over a year on the job.

Traded away Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, Jermaine Johnson, Michael Carter II, one sixth-round pick and three seventh-round picks.

We Are so Back Baby

The Jets are infamous for winning the offseason on a year-to-year basis. Unfortuantley that hasn’t necessarily translated to success on the field during the season.

Mougey has gotten a lot of credit for his shrewd moves since taking over. However, it should be noted that head coach Aaron Glenn has the final say on all roster decisions.

So he should get his slice of the credit for a lot of the things the Jets fan base seems to be assigning to Mougey.

Who gets credit for any of these moves should be the least of the Jets’ problems. The magical antidote to fixing things is winning games. Simple in nature, but difficult to execute.

The good news for the Jets is that they have all the resources at their disposal to significantly upgrade the roster this offseason.
