It appears the Pittsburgh Steelers are finally listening to some of the grievances recently aired out by the 2026 NFLPA report card, as a new report indicates important changes are coming to Acrisure Stadium.

According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, Steelers President Art Rooney revealed that a new playing surface is on its way to Acrisure Stadium.

“Steelers president Art Rooney said Thursday that Acrisure Stadium will be resurfaced for the 2026 season with Tahoma 31 Bermuda, a mixture of Bermuda and bluegrass grown on plastic sheets that is cold-tolerant and used on many golf courses, sporting fields and even the lawn of the U.S. Capitol,” Dulac wrote.

The quality of the playing surface at Acrisure Stadium reached an all-time low in 2025, resulting in injuries, such as Miles Killebrew tearing his ACL in Week 6, and multiple player complaints to the NFL Players Association.

Earlier this week, ESPN released a look at the 2026 NFLPA survey results, and the Steelers were ranked the worst team in the league, which included an F- grade for their playing field at Acrisure.

It’s clear that the Steelers took the poor grades — and the NFL’s 2028 playing surface mandate — to heart as the players prepare for a brand new field.
