Seahawks GM: How Super Bowl impacts free agency approach

From a Seattle Seahawks perspective, which position groups will former NFL quarterback Brock Huard be focused on? When posed that question Thursday during an appearance on Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy, Huard went with edge rusher, cornerback and wide receiver.

For one, those position groups are the strengths of this year’s draft class. Out of ESPN’s top 100 draft prospects, there are 13 edge rushers, 14 cornerbacks and a whopping 18 wide receivers.

Those three position groups also could be among the Seahawks’ biggest areas of need, depending on what transpires in free agency next month. Edge rusher Boye Mafe, cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Josh Jobe, and wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed are all pending free agents for Seattle.

“I want to watch this D-line group in totality, and in particular these edge guys, because there’s four or five or six that are kind of unique and kind of different,” Huard said. “And with the corners, the edge players, the receivers — those are the strengths of the top 100 players in this draft. … That’s where the most supply and talent is.”

The Seahawks currently hold just four 2026 draft picks: a first-rounder (No. 32 overall), a second-rounder (No. 64), a third-rounder (No. 96) and a sixth-rounder (No. 212).

“It’s kind of like, OK, how many of (these prospects) could be there at 32?” Huard said. “Or if we trade down, how many of them are gonna be there in the 40s and the 60s and the 90s? … So those three positions, more than any other, are probably the ones I’ll sink my teeth into the most.”
