No. 13 Georgia men’s tennis was swept by No. 4 Texas 4-0 in Austin, Texas.

With this loss, the Bulldogs have fallen to the Longhorns for the third time since 2022 and have broken their eight-match win streak. This marks the team’s first SEC loss of the season.

Texas claimed the first doubles match on court two, with the senior-sophomore duo Will Jansen and Gabriele Vulpitta falling 6-4 to No. 12 Sebastian Eriksson and Oliver Ojakaar. Derrick Chen and Noah Johnston secured the Bulldogs’ sole win of the day against Jonah Braswell and Abel Forger 6-3. This left doubles partners Arda Azkara and Santiago Giamichelle to clinch the doubles point.

The graduate student-senior duo kept the match within reach, but ultimately were defeated by No. 25 Lucas Marionneau and Sebastian Gorzny 7-5.

In singles, No. 60 Giamichelle was first to finish against No. 67 Forger on court three. The Bulldog was defeated in consecutive sets 6-2, 6-1. On court six, freshman Salvador Price fell short to Marionneau 7-5, 6-3.

No. 77 Vulpitta faced Ojakaar on court five and ultimately gave Texas its fourth win of the day. Vulpitta had kept the match close in two consecutive tiebreaker sets, but could not secure a win, leaving the match 7-6(4), 7-6(4).

At the time of Vulpitta’s loss, three matches were left unfinished. On court one, No. 42 Azkara was up against No. 3 Gorzny. On court two, No. 30 Jansen faced No. 40 Eriksson. The Bulldog secured his first set 6-2, but Eriksson came back in a tiebreaker 7-6(7). Eriksson was up 1-0 in the third set.

On court four, Johnston played Braswell. Braswell shut out Johnston 6-0 in the first set, but the freshman fought back to secure the second set 6-4. The Longhorn was up 5-0 in the third set.

Georgia will return home to face Alabama on Friday with a chance to keep its home match-winning streak alive.
