The Seattle Seahawks have gotten some troubling news on running back Kenneth Walker III, if they want to retain him.
The Seattle Seahawks and running back Kenneth Walker III proved a solid fit during the 2025-26 season, but now, the team has gotten some troubling news on the player if they want to retain him.
Walker wrapped up the season with 221 carries for 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns, according to NFL research, and averaged 4.6 yards per attempt. He also started in all 17 games for the Seattle Seahawks and stayed consistent and healthy throughout the season.
The cherry on top of was Walker was also named the Super Bowl LX MVP. “If I would have told myself as a kid, I wouldn’t have guessed that I would be the one to win the MVP,” Walker told reporters after winning the award, according to NBC News. “So, it’s a surreal moment.”
“I’m really happy for Ken. He played a tremendous game,” Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said after the game. “Everyone really dedicated themselves to the run game today, which is something we had to get going to really control the game, and I think this is one of the best versions of Ken that we’ve [seen] up to this point.”
Seattle Seahawks Running Back Kenneth Walker III Is Likely Gone, NFL Analysts Say
In a Sunday, March 1, feature for ESPN, Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano discuss the state of the running back market in free agency. They paint a dim picture for the Seahawks if they want to retain Walker.
In the piece, they note that Walker “who sounds like he’s generating enough outside interest to spell the end of his time in Seattle.” The words “spell the end of his time in Seattle” hits hard.
Seattle Seahawks Indicate They Want to Keep Kenneth Walker III
While speaking with reporters at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, February 24, general manager John Schneider, of course, was asked about Walker. He indicated that he would like to have him back.
“We’d love to have Ken back, and he knows this better than anybody — it’s about our 70 and our collective and what that’s going to look like,” Schneider said of Walker, who had a 161-yard performance in Super Bowl LX, according to research from ESPN.
He added, “We’ll have those meetings down here. We’ll start talking to all the agents and we’ll have a better feel of where we’re going towards the end of the week.”
In a Sunday, March 1, piece for 12th Man Rising, Lee Vowell makes the case that “Mike Washington Jr. might be the Seattle Seahawks perfect replacement” for Walker.
Washington is out of Arkansas. He ran a 4.33 40-yard dash and was second among all RBs in both the broad jump and vertical leap, according to Vowell’s research.
After running his 40, Washington told the NFL Network’s Stacey Dales, “I’m so emotional, man. I worked my entire life for this.”
That’s the “kind of emotion that had the Seahawks feel so connected as a team this season. Head coach Mike Macdonald doesn’t want robots,” Vowell said. “He definitely wants players to do what the coaching staff asks, but he also wants a roster full of real human beings who care about what they do and help one another.”
