The New England Patriots have a couple of clear needs this offseason, with one of them being along their offensive line. The good news for the Pats is that there are several players they could look to sign in free agency, with another target for the team emering on Monday afternoon after the Miami Dolphins surprisingly decided to release Liam Eichenberg.

While Eichenberg didn’t play at all in 2025 due to an undisclosed injury, he started 52 games in his first four seasons after getting selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Now, he’s become the latest player to get released by the Dolphins, as their new regime continues to completely flip their roster on its head.

“The Dolphins have released OL Liam Eichenberg, who started 52 games in four years as a former 2nd-round pick,” Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team shared in a post on X.

There’s no doubt that Eichenberg’s season-long absence is a bit of a concern, but he’s one of the more intriguing offensive linemen on the free agent market this offseason. Eichenberg has the versatility to play all five spots along the offensive line, and while he has positions he’s better at filling, he’s a rare breed who can play at a high level no matter where he lines up.

With New England potentially set to look for an upgrade at several spots on its o-line, targeting Eichenberg could make a lot of sense. Several teams will surely be interested in signing him, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Pats at least show a level of interest in the former Dolphins product.
