There aren’t many coaches with more experience than Peter Giunta, the New Orleans Saints senior defensive assistant. Giunta has coached for 46 years, spending 34 of those in the NFL as a part of three Super Bowl-winning teams; he was the St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator in Super Bowl XXXIV and coached the New York Giants secondary in Super Bowl XLII and XLVI. He’s been with New Orleans since 2016.
And he got to share some of that experience with top prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft at this year’s combine. Giunta helped run drills and instruct the safeties and cornerbacks on what was needed from them at Lucas Oil Stadium. Then he shared some advice, urging young players to remember why they’re competing to play the sport at its highest level — and to remember the loved ones who they’re working so hard to provide for.
Giunta has helped the Saints draft and develop some great players over the years, from early-round picks like Marshon Lattimore, Vonn Bell, Marcus Williams, Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry to mid-round standouts including Paulson Adebo, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Jonas Sanker and Quincy Riley. They’ll be counting on his insight again in 2026.
