We know that the Indianapolis Colts are working towards re-signing free agents Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce. But what other pending free agents should GM Chris Ballard attempt to bring back?

On the defensive side of the ball, it sounds like there could be a fair amount of roster turnover this offseason. On offense, however, there are three reasonably priced free agents that won’t break the salary cap bank and won’t stop Ballard from further adding to those position groups in an effort to bolster the depth and competition on the roster.

IOL Danny Pinter

The Colts’ current depth chart along the offensive line is very short on experience behind the starting five. Pinter’s veteran presence could certainly provide some value, not to mention that he can help out at center or guard if needed.

If the Colts needed to get out of this deal during roster cutdowns, they could do so relatively easily with minimal dead cap.

Spotrac contract projection: One year, $2.39 million

TE Mo Alie-Cox

Tyler Warren is leading the way at this position, but we see our fair share of two-tight-end sets under Shane Steichen. Alie-Cox could continue to provide that blocking first presence, where he’s proven to be reliable and steady.

Alie-Cox ranked 19th out of 46 tight ends in PFF’s run-blocking grade last season.

Spotrac contract projection: One year, $2.2 million

RB Ameer Abdullah

Behind Jonathan Taylor, the only running backs on the roster currently are DJ Giddens and Ulysses Bentley — so the Colts are short on experienced depth here. Re-signing Abdullah could bolster competition for that RB2 role and also provide the Colts with a backup return option behind Anthony Gould.

On both offense and special teams last season, Abdullah provided a reliable presence.

Similar to Pinter’s situation, if someone else emerges over the summer to secure a roster spot, moving on from Abdullah would be fairly easy.
