Rob Leonard has been selected by new Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach as his defensive coordinator and it is the most important assistant in the staff.
And many Raiders fans are totally on board with the promotion of Leonard. He spent the past three seasons as the team’s defensive line coach. We recently asked our community members if they are on board with the hire. It was overwhelming as about 75 percent of the vote takers being behind the decision.

I get the confidence in the hire. Leonard, 38, is a well-respected assistant and reportedly, the Raiders’ brass badly wanted to keep him in Las Vegas and believe he is a rising coaching star.

Love the hire!! If we didn’t learn anything from letting Pete go, older more experienced people can sometimes be too rigid. The Raiders had to block him from interviewing with other teams. If they give him time to learn he and Kubiak may be able to do something special. Give him time to cook because he doesn’t have a lot to work with as it is, but at least he knows what he’s got to work with and where improvements may be needed.

Absolutely love it! He has learned under some of the most creative defensive minds currently in the league. He is beloved by his players. He deserves the opportunity to show what he can do.

My uneducated opinion…I think it was a hire of convenience (and expediency) after the Seattle candidate decided to stay in Seattle. It does make a certain degree of sense in that he knows the players well. But nobody knows if he’ll be any good as a Coordinator. I see it as a one year tryout, and if it doesn’t work out well, we’ll go hard for Schwartz, or someone else. Such is the pitfalls of being the last coach hired in the cycle and so many other coordinator candidates already having been hired. Boom or bust.
