Here’s a cool development for the New Orleans Saints. On Tuesday, the team announced that a former player is joining their coaching staff — Will Clapp, whose official title will be offensive assistant. Clapp recently retired after losing his 2025 season to an injury, having re-signed with the Saints team that drafted him back in 2018. The New Orleans native will get to take the next step in his football life in his hometown.

Good for him, but good for the Saints, too. New Orleans split ways with assistant offensive line coach Jahri Evans this offseason so they had a vacancy in the coaching staff. Clapp was an active presence on the sideline during games and on the practice field last year, and the Saints valued his input as an experienced veteran. He played under Kellen Moore and offensive line coach Brendan Nugent on the Los Angeles Chargers so there’s already a strong connection there.

Good luck to Clapp in his new endeavor. The Saints offensive line has to be a major point of emphasis this spring with Tyler Shough in the backfield and looking to assert himself as the next big thing at quarterback. They have a couple of young bookends in Kelvin Banks Jr. and Taliese Fuaga with a Pro Bowler returning from injury in center Erik McCoy, so it’s a good base to start building from. Let’s see if they can pull it off.
